Burnet County 4H Horse Club
   Horse Judging Contests

Horse judging is an activity in which the youth learn and apply the knowledge of the "ideal" features of the horse.  They judge the conformation and the riding styles of various breeds and disciplines of horses.  They must evaluate each horse in relation to the "ideal" for that particular breed and also in relation to other horses in the class.
In addition to simply placing the horses in the class, contestants must also defend their placings to an official in order to further prove their knowledge of the horse.
Participants must learn to be confident about their decisions, to use logic when faced with a problem, to express their ideas in a calm and poised manner, and to stand and speak in front of strangers.
All these skills can help guide a youth through school and a career in the real  world.

Many of the youth go on to compete in the 4H District Show in Sweetwater in June and then on to the State 4H Show in Abilene in late July.  These shows are very competitive and allow the kids to exhibit their showing skills in different areas.  We have had many members be quite successful at these shows.
There are many other opportunities to show around the state that our youth take advantage of like:  open shows, ranch versatility shows, english/jumping events, rodeos, playdays, AQHA and APHA shows and others.  We have a very versatile membership that is very active and we always look forward to hearing of each other's successes at different events!  See our photos page for other great pictures!
Horse Shows
Banner Sales
One of our primary fundraisers for the year is selling rodeo banners on behalf of the Marble Falls Rodeo Association.  These banners are placed on the storefront of local businesses for the week of our local rodeo in July.  Our town is painted red, white, and blue during that week.  This fundraiser has been a great success!
Clinics
Several times during the year, the kids invite area clinicians to hold clinics at a local arena.  They cover things like horsemanship skills, desensitization, grooming, etc.  Most often this is done on horseback so the kids can get a hands on experience.
We have also invited guest speakers to our meetings to teach us things like emergency medicine for horses, horse care, tack care, how to get involved in national associations, etc.  We have also attended professional clinics like Clinton Anderson and a few judging clinics around the state.
Mustang Makeover
We have 4 members of our club (Zachary, Jarrett, and Luke Haydon and Brandyl Brooks) that participted in the Mustang Makeover program.  They did a super job grooming, training, desensitizing, and exposing these yearling mustangs to many situations.  Our club was one of the sponsors that helped them travel to the Extreme Mustang Makeover Competition in
Ft. Worth in September 2008.  Way to go guys!!!  We are so proud of your dedication and your hard work.  You are great examples of responsible horse owners!
"Greeters" at the Walkway of Lights 2008
Each year we have a County Horse Show in May that provides competition in several different disciplines like halter, showmanship, western pleasure, english, horsemanship, equitation, trail, and speed events.
Community Service
